Naoko Shibuya
Sanctuary
A sense of the interior, both spatial and psychological, is present in the paintings of Naoko Shibuya. There is no horizon, no sunlight, no shadow, no perspective, no day nor night. Instead of these cues of conventional representation we are drawn into a dream world; reality is present but imaginatively reconstructed. Like a good modernist, she eschews symbolism or agitation; she creates her world and allows the viewer to be drawn in and perhaps find the connections the artist herself feels so strongly.
Various Artists
A Collector’s Eye | F.C.F. Valentine
The F.C.F. Valentine Post-War Print Collection features an impressive line up of iconic artists from both the UK and abroad, reflecting the radical shift that occurred in the arts after the Second World War. Many of these artists represent a new era of art by individuals eager to express themselves and challenge traditional perceptions of art. The Valentine Collection was assembled by a single collector in Edinburgh.
Alistair Grant
A Collector’s Eye | Alistair Grant
During his lifetime as a painter, printmaker, and professor, Alistair Grant was an integral part of the artistic and printmaking scene in London. For thirty-five years, Alistair Grant and printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London were indivisible. Grant was an inspirational teacher and artist who taught many of his peers. He is a direct contemporary of many of the artists featured in The Valentine Collection including Peter Blake, Patrick Caulfield, Michael Craig-Martin, Robyn Denny, Gordon House, Tim Mara and Patrick Procktor. Grant held a solo exhibition with The Scottish Gallery in London in 1990. We are delighted to reevaluate Alistair Grant’s life and work with a selection of prints, lithographs and paintings from throughout his career.
Nel Linssen
Moving Geometry
It has been eight years since the passing of the remarkable Dutch jeweller Nel Linssen, yet her innovative paper jewellery remains one of the greatest legacies in the world of modern jewellery. Originally trained as a textile designer, her intuitive approach to materials led to a lifelong dedication to her paper jewellery practice.
Colin Reid
Nature’s Influence
Colin Reid is as an international pioneer in the field of kilncast glass. We are delighted and honoured to have three outstanding examples of his sculpture this October, which have been inspired by a recent residency in the west coast of Scotland.
