Christina Jansen recently visited Emily Sutton in her York studio, where she lives with her furry companion, Mouse. Emily has been a regular presence in The Gallery since 2009, showcasing several solo exhibitions. This studio visit sets the stage for her upcoming exhibition at The Gallery later this year. The following images provide a glimpse into Emily’s studio life and artistic process. Anticipation builds for an immersive theatrical installation, specially designed by the artist, offering viewers a chance to encounter some of Sutton’s cherished objects, many of which serve as inspiration for her paintings. Stay tuned for something extraordinary set to be unveiled in December 2024.
Raised in the iconic North Yorkshire countryside, Emily Sutton has become a true icon of modern-day illustration. Garnering huge clients across the publishing and art world including the V&A, The Telegraph, Bloomsbury, Walker Books, Faber and Faber and Random House, Emily is fast becoming a household name. Starting her artistic career at Edinburgh College of Art, Emily’s childhood obsessions were soon brought to life; it was here that her vast and detailed world of curiosities, Victoriana and rosy-cheeked children were born.
