Alexandra Knubley employs a distinctive technique of working in oil and wax using a range of palette knives and scrapers, building up the surface of her paintings to create a sculptural surface. Planes and lines thus formed, beautifully evoke perspective depth and surface texture in open landscapes of the Hebrides, architectural subjects, deep woodlands of the Scottish Borders.
I paint landscapes by weaving memories and feelings of place with photographs and sketches. Sight, sound and evoked memory all play an integral part in the inspiration and creation of my work. Working from my small studio at the bottom of my garden in Kirkliston, I produce paintings exploring the natural world as it changes around me. Alex Knubley, 2020
